Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 12/08/2018

Some great songs being picked for Helen’s challenge. Including the Beatles Baby you can drive my car (which Peter picked); I was thinking there was a Beatles one I liked about driving, but before the Beatles song came to mind … The line I like driving my car, it is not quite a Jaguar’ came to mind. I have sung that one line lots but, don’t think I could have conjured up any other lyrics from the song. It is by Madness. Here are all the lyrics:

Driving In My Car
Madness
I’ve been driving in my car, it’s not quite a Jaguar
I bought it in Primrose Hill from a bloke from Brazil
It was made in fifty-nine in a factory by the Tyne
It says Morris on the door, the G.P.O. owned it before
I drive in it for my job, the governor calls me a slob
But I don’t really care, give me some gas and the open air
It’s a bit old but it’s mine, I mend it in my spare time
Just last week I changed the oil, the rocker valves and the coil
Just last week I changed the oil
Last week it went round the clock, I also had a little knock
I dented somebody’s fender, he learnt not to park on a bender, ha ha ha
I’ve been driving in my car, it don’t look much but I’ve been far
I drive up to Muswell Hill, I’ve even been to Selsey Bill
I drove along the A45, I had her up to 58
This copper stopped me the other day, you’re mistaken what could I say
The tyres were a little worn, they were O.K., I could have sworn
I like driving in my car, I’m satisfied I’ve got this far
I like driving in my car, it don’t look much but I’ve been far
I like driving in my car, even with a flat tyre
I like driving in my car, it’s not quite a Jaguar
I like driving in my car, I’m satisfied I’ve got this far
Songwriters: Cathal Joseph Smyth / Christopher John Foreman / Daniel Mark Woodgate / Graham Mcpherson / Lee Jay Thompson / Mark William Bedford / Michael Barson

Those people, who picked Cars; Who’s going to drive me home – very clever double of band and song!

Helen’s back from her road trip and wishes us all to emulate her by choosing a drive/driving song this week.

Well, that’s easy for me! I always go back to my youth (who wouldn’t?) and seek out a Beatles song. Just because I love them, they were my youth, and they have some great tunes and lyrics!

It has to be Drive my Car. Apparently there is some hidden suggested sexual meaning behind it, but who knew? I certainly didn’t!

Without further ado, here it is. Hope you enjoy it, I certainly will.

Drive My Car

The Beatles

Asked a girl what she wanted to be
She said baby, can’t you see
I want to be famous, a star on the screen
But you can do something in between
Baby you can drive my car
Yes I’m gonna be a star
Baby you can drive my car
And maybe…
