At first the bikes in Sheffield were free. Hopefully now people have to pay for them, they will not be throwing in rivers.
They are redustributed in vans, so not totally green!
Hopefully, if do not get rival companies, will not get the mass of abandoned bikes seen in China.
In January 2018 OFO launched their “bike share” scheme in Sheffield.
The bikes do not have docking stations and the scheme works in conjunction with a phone app. 1000 of the bicycles were scattered around the city where users can scan a code to unlock the bicycle and cycle to their destination where if required another user can scan and cycle away.
In China there are images of hundreds of thousands of bicycles used in similar schemes which have simply been dumped and remain un-claimed by the companies that created them (see image* below). Click HERE to read the full story and for more shocking images.
